Pros and Cons of Working As An HVAC Technician

We’re not here to tell you that your job as an HVAC technician will be all rainbows and unicorns. Like any job, there are pros and cons. If you’re deciding if a career in HVAC is right for you, make sure you’re considering all the good, bad, and ugly parts of what it takes to be an HVAC technician.

    Pro: Great Compensation

High pay? Sign me up! No one can argue that great compensation is a huge plus to any job. Even if you have to fend off a few spiders on Ms. Miller’s outdoor HVAC unit whac-a-mole style, at least you can earn a high wage doing so!

    Pro: Physical Activity

Being an HVAC technician is like being a mobile gym – you’re constantly working out everywhere you go! Whether you’re lifting heavy equipment, using your arms and hands, partaking in unintentional squats, you’re physically active – which can greatly reduce your risk of many illnesses and diseases – while also making you buff. It’s a win-win.

    Pro: Problem Solving

If you like troubleshooting and solving problems, then you may have what it takes to be an HVAC hero. As an HVAC technician, you’ll face new situations all the time that require your problem-solving skills. But in the end, you’re making all the difference in your community. Trust us, when you fix a customer’s AC unit in the middle of a sweltering hot Tampa, FL summer, you are crowned a true hero – but without the crown.

    Pro: Long-Term Stability

Purple ketchup may have died a slow and painful death back in 2006, but luckily for you, that will never happen in HVAC. People are always going to need heat, air, ventilation, the whole shebang. When you choose a career in HVAC, you can rest assured you’ll never be without a job.

    Con: Occasional Long Hours

When you work at Acree Plumbing, Air & Electric specifically, you can be guaranteed a work-life balance. But that’s not the case for the industry in general. HVAC technicians are often faced with long hours, especially during certain seasons when it’s much busier than the other parts of the year. Expecting to get home before sundown in August? Fuggedaboutit!

    Con: Safety Hazards

Side effects may include bodily harm. Unfortunately, being an HVAC technician does involve some risk of injury. This is because you’re often working with heavy equipment, extreme weather patterns, and other hazardous situations. That’s why training is so important. At Acree Plumbing, Air & Electric, we provide training to ensure your safety while on the job.

    Con: Physically Demanding

When you work as an HVAC technician, you should expect to be busy. Your body must be able to handle stress and physical demands. Whether you’re lifting heavy equipment or pushing yourself through an attic or crawlspace, you’re constantly moving. So, if you fall asleep while at dinner with your significant other, we cannot be held responsible. It comes with the job!
